Softball announces new stadium improvements for the JU Softball Complex.

The JU softball program is looking to build on its successful 2010 season in more ways than one as the Dolphins announce new stadium improvements for the JU Softball Complex.

The Dolphins plan to give fans a new way to watch the games with the addition of 80 chair back seats from BleaChair at the JU Softball Complex. Fans can donate to the project and help fill the stadium for a $50 donation.

"We are pleased to start phase two of a three phase process," said director of athletics Alan Verlander. "We completed the first phase with the stadium two seasons ago and now we are adding the chair back seats to enhance the stadium look and experience. The softball team is one of our most improved programs over the last few seasons, so we are committed to enhancing a first-class facility to showcase our team competing for a championship."

After the current phase, the Dolphins will start working towards the final improvements for the stadium which will be a locker and team room by the third base dugout. They will also look to secure naming rights for the stadium as well. Phase three will start once private monies are raised.

"I'm excited to build on our stadium again," said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. "We gave the stadium a much needed face lift in 2008 with doubling our seating capacity and adding a pressbox. Our goal is to give the fans a great experience of watching softball at our stadium and these seats will help us do that."

On the field, the Dolphins have enjoyed instant success since Lehotak took over the program in 2007. JU has improved its win total each season and battled some of the toughest teams in the nation, including national champion participants Michigan and Florida.

In 2010, JU recorded the second highest win total in program history (33) and the best home record under Lehotak (19-7) to secure the Dolphins second straight A-Sun Tournament berth. The Dolphins set a new single-season record in ERA (2.11), while finishing second on the program list with 329 strikeouts and third in RBI with 175. They also placed a program-best five players on the A-Sun all-conference teams.

For more information on seat donations, fans can contact the JU softball office at 904-256-7298 or email Lehotak at alehota@ju.edu.

JU Camp FAQs

Q. When should I start to go to College Softball Camps?

A. The earlier the better! The younger you can get started to be fundamentally sound the better. It's also great to have the College Softball Coaches know who you are when you are 10 and then they see you again at 16 and say, I remember that girl. Man, she can really play.

Q. What should I bring to a typical softball camp?

A. For normal softball camps, you come like you would be going to practice or game. Softball glove, bat, hat, uniform and helmet, if you have one.
